SPECTRUM ANNOUNCES END OF LIFE ON V-DISPLAY
V-Display Software for Wallboards and Readerboards
V-Display is application software that resides within CMS and collects data to be displayed on Spectrum Wallboards. The software collects interval (real-time) and historical data and gives customers the ability to select which of these data items to display on Spectrum Wallboards and Screen Pops.
There are three major sections to the V-Display software:
- The V-Display Daemon resides on CMS and collects the data and populates the data on the wallboard and screen pops.
- The V-Display GUI Daemon also resides on CMS and it talks to the V-Display Daemon and listens to the V-Display GUI Interface.
- The V-Display GUI (client) is an application that resides on a PC and communicates with the GUI Daemon on the Avaya CMS.

V-Display GUI
The V-Display GUI is a Windows Graphical User Interface application to administer the wallboards from a networked PC. If the user has been given permissions he may administer the V-Display software including the statistics and messages that appear on the wallboards. Regardless of where the user is located, if he has the proper user permissions, he is able to login and administer the wallboards and messages. User permissions can be set for multiple levels including a read only access.
The GUI also provides the ability to configure the wallboards, which determines the connectivity to the V-Display software (IP, NTS, or SAIP Card), wallboard address, and presentation modes for the data items and messages. The data items, split/skills, and ACD’s that will appear on the wallboards can also be selected from the GUI. Color, beep and flash thresholds are set up through the GUI. Messages that will appear on the wallboards and the dates and times they run are administered as well.
Other features that are accessible through the GUI includes:
- Pinging the wallboards
- Stopping and starting the application on CMS
- Stopping and starting the wallboards
- Viewing logs
- Configuration for the wallboards
The GUI gives the user the ability to fully configure the V-Display software except that it’s done on a PC instead of the CMS. The GUI is a standard component to V-Display, however it does not need to be used for the V-Display software to operate. The user can fully administer the software from the CMS.
V-Display UNIX Configurator

The V-Display Unix Configurator is the application that resides on the CMS and gives the user the ability to configure the V-Display software. One of the differences between the GUI and the Unix Configurator is that the Configurator provides the means to set up the user permissions for the GUI. Otherwise the Unix Configurator has the same features as the GUI, but the user must select these options using Unix menu selections rather than Windows drop down selections.
During the installation, the V-Display is added to the CMS Main Menu as an option. When selected, the V-Display will provide the user with:
-
Configure V-Display
-
Start and stop the wallboards
-
Create permission files
-
Set Beep threshold information
These are the most requested options of the software, so they are easily accessible for the user. The Unix Configurator manual gives a complete explanation of all of the options for the Unix Configurator application.
